I am relatively new to LinkedIn, and I have to say, 18 months in, it is hands down my favorite of the socials.
With the right kind of engagement and posts, it can quickly become a supportive community as well as a place to attract serious clients.
It’s not surprising that supportive community and client attraction go together.
This episode of Prosperous Coach Podcast is NOT about LinkedIn, but it is about why generating positive energy around your business goes a long way to building your success in coaching.
I will share simple ways to generate positivity within yourself and out in the world, which helps you to launch your coaching business well and stay in the flow of good opportunities.
Its time to shake yourself out of the check-it-off doldrums that can happen to coaches in their early years of business.
I double dog dare you to start using these ways in your life and business every day and watch what happens next!
I Have a Big Win to Celebrate with You
A few weeks ago, Prosperous Coach Podcast surpassed 300,000 downloads and listens are at an all time high with this 311th episode as I finish my 6th year. That’s a big deal in the world of podcasting because so few shows make it past 10 episodes or 1 year. I could not be more proud of this WIN. 🥇
I have you to thank! 🙏🏻💓
I celebrate YOU, your desire to learn, and your trust of me to share the real stuff!
I know I’ll get so many lovely congratulations, thank you in advance, and that’s not why I do this. My goal here is to demonstrate the power of celebration, both of self and of others.
Tap into this method of positivity, y’all. You won’t be sorry!
Coach, Do You Know How to Celebrate Your Own Small Successes?
Wouldn’t you think that, of all people, coaches would be great celebrators — people who recognize that small, incremental improvements add up to great successes?
As a coach, I imagine that you value self reflection and acknowledging your clients’ wins. But what about for your own wins?
Over 2+ decades working with coaches of all stripes, I’ve been amazed to see that many haven’t yet learned how to celebrate their own successes or each other’s.
For example, every one of my VIP clients learns and accomplishes so much every week, growing in impressive ways. Yet, when asked each week what they are celebrating, large or small, only half report anything. They’re hearing praise from me, but unbidden don’t always seem to recognize their own wins.
What’s that about?
The Familial and Cultural Quashing of Joy
Difficult life circumstances can cast a pall of negativity over everything:
- You might have been taught in a traumatic way that tooting your own horn is not okay.
- You might have been bullied and pulled inside yourself so that sharing wins with others is uncomfortable.
- You might be a long-time high achiever with continuously elevated expectations for yourself so that even your biggest wins go unrecognized. It’s onto the next goal without a pause.
I understand, those things and others can shut down your personal pride. And that makes it more difficult to go for goals and reach them.
I was a late bloomer to celebration and positivity. Looking back, I can see how that’s stunted my emotional intelligence and even my coaching business growth.
It kept me small in spirit. But something else indomitable drove me forward.
A decade ago, my naturopath asked me to start a practice of throwing my arms up in the air and gleefully shouting “Yay!” not only for my own small wins but also for the wins of others. Even people I’ve never met. He encouraged adding in a victory dance so there is more somatic affirmation.
I took on that challenge and immediately saw how it lifted my spirit, improved my health and helped me attract more things to celebrate. Once tapped into, positivity can become a way of life.
Celebrating raised my dopamine levels and it can raise yours too. It’s infectious and keeps cycling in the world.
I invite you, even if trauma has help you back before, to take this opportunity of being a professional coach to open to positivity. Start small and build up.
Life Your Spirits and Lift Up Others Too
Collective energy circulates and can make a HUGE impact. Divisive words and thoughts are a negative example of this, creating fear and anxiety, which spreads and multiplies like a virus.
And the opposite is true too. Your positivity, love, kindness and sense of celebration has a dramatically positive affect on you and others around you. It circulates good will. We need more of that in our world than ever.
Even if you don’t buy into this idea of the collective, test it for yourself. Celebrate …
- Your personal wins — no matter how small.
- Other people’s wins — no matter how small.
And watch how that multiplies and creates ripples of joy in your life.
Coaches and The Right Stuff
In Episode #293, I interviewed Cooper Neimand, a past VIP client of mine who, in my view, possesses THE RIGHT STUFF as a coach. It’s a beautiful interview that I hope you’ll listen to.
One character trait that stood out about Cooper is that he celebrates dozens of small and big wins from all aspects of his life every week. Partly because of that, working with him was such fun and I can imagine how richly rewarded his clients are by his presence. I know that he will attract a steady stream of clients.
Cooper is also vulnerable and shares his mistakes with others. That’s equally important for coaches.
Part of why I wanted to share Cooper’s ways with you is because, anyone can raise positivity — a most attractive quality in a coach and in a human — simply by opening to it.
Notice the affect of positivity around you. Start by observing it in others. Then, congratulate everyone who has the smallest of wins. Soon, you’ll start noticing your own wins and appreciating them. Then, share those with others
This is where my experience on LinkedIn comes in again. I have had the good fortune of being a part of an ad hoc community on LinkedIn that celebrates each other’s wins and also supports each other through hard times.
It’s not fake enthusiasm or a pity party. It’s genuine. And it keeps me engaging there beyond the goal to attract new listeners to Prosperous Coach Podcast and my offers.
I’ve noticed how new entrepreneurs, including coaches, are introducing themselves and people who don’t know them are welcoming them. It’s a sweet practice. I’ve also noticed coaches bravely sharing their new credentials, client wins and personal wins of all sorts receiving dozens of congratulatory responses.
Maybe this is all obvious to you, but it’s new to me on socials. I haven’t seen this kind of authentic supportive environment before in my 2+ decades in business.
I’m NOT advocating that you join LinkedIn — where you engage and market is dependent on your audience and niche. Instead, I’m advocating that you CHOOSE WHERE you will start sharing your wins with others, even those who don’t know you. And, when will you start joyfully celebrating other’s little and big wins?
