You’ve invested in training … likely more than you’ll ever need. Hopefully, you’ve targeted a viable audience and unique niche to stand out in the crowd. And hopefully, your website and social profiles are customized for the outcomes that audience most wants.
Now, you are longing for paying clients to coach. Where are they?!
You’ve spent endless hours creating social posts, and admittedly, developing content for an online training program that you’ll promote … someday.
You’ve worked so hard but at the end of the month there’s still not enough paying clients or income to show for it.
I’ve been there. It’s disheartening. And it was my story until I created a system to take high payoff actions every day. You know, the strategic and powerful actions that make you squirm?
It’s Time to Graduate from Coach in Training to Coaching Business Founder
There’s a reluctance and simultaneous longing in all human beings to transform. Competing interests keep a person teetering on the threshold of what they want.
For example, being a student coach feels so safe. It’s comforting to stay in that place of learning. And that’s why so many coaches just keep investing in more coach training and add on skills to fill their toolbox.
As long as you are adding to your knowledge base, you’re still a student, right? No one expects you to earn when you’re a student.
But at the same time, you truly want to pay yourself back for all the investment you’ve made so far. You want to use your coaching skills with serious paying clients as well as prove to your family, friends and yourself, that you can do this.
There is no doubt that you can IF you let yourself make the shift from student newbie coach to fully owning the role of founder and CEO of your own coaching business. This is where you become fiscally responsible for your business and for your own success.
It sounds scary but as coaches we know that fear is tempered by enthusiasm. So enthusiastically own your new role as a business owner. Be a success by staying inspired and making it happen for yourself!
That doesn’t mean you have to do everything by yourself. It’s a transformation that begins with a shift in how you see yourself, which influences what you are willing to do and the actual actions you take.
The Difference Between a Student Coach and a Coaching Business Owner
Let me describe this a bit more …
- Where a student coach does what other coaches do online.
- A coaching business owner makes strategic decisions to stand out.
- A student coach says ‘yes’ to most any opportunity because they feel flattered.
- A business owner only says ‘yes’ to what will put them in front of their ideal audience.
- A student coach gives coaching away for free or low fees because they are afraid to charge more.
- A coaching business owner sets prices that will sustain their business and attract high quality clients.
- A student coach spends time on relatively easy tasks that are unrelated.
- The coach entrepreneur completes high payoff actions each day that are interrelated.
High payoff actions are always the ones that make you squirm because they are powerful, intentional and strategic.
- The action is powerful because it takes courage to do it.
- The action is intentional because there is winning energy driving it.
- The action is strategic because it is meant to bring about a specific result in a chain of results that leads to enrolling clients and earning a sustainable income.
Which of these is a high payoff action?
- Social posts
- Sending an email broadcast
- Inviting a prospect to a Discovery Call
Obvious, right? It’s the last one.
But not so fast … each of these could be a high payoff action depending on the strategy that goes into it.
I know coaches who have attracted paying clients from social posts, email broadcasts and Discovery Calls — including me! But none of these was a solitary action. They were part of a plan.
I know, planning and strategizing isn’t easy and it may not be natural to you. But it is how you graduate from a coach in training to a being an entrepreneurial with skin in the game.
